I've been thinking a lot about walking around Disney World lately, and thought how cool it would be to still REP Dphie from head to toe while looking sporty in the parks.
I came across a really great tutorial on Sorority Sugar for painted canvas shoes, and couldn't pass it up. It was super easy, and they turned out so cute!
What you'll need:
- canvas shoes (I went with white so the colors would show up best, but you could go with a bright color as well. It will just take much more paint.)
- Painters tape to guard the rubber soles from paint.
- Acrylic paints
- Paintbrushes (the thinner and stiffer, the better)
- A drop cloth or something you don't mind getting painty on.
- a Spray sealant like Krylon
1. Cover any bits of the shoe you don't wait paint on with painters tape.
2. Using a pencil, lightly sketch your design on the shoe. I started with a few simple pearl strands, the letters, and a unicorn. Later after painting this part, I filled in the blanks with doodles and lines.
3. Using a thin, stiff paintbrush and tons of acrylic paint, fill in the pencil lines with paint. I get the letters a few extra coats so they really stood out. For the thin black lines, I used a thin sharpie. I wouldn't recommend this on the entire shoe as it tends to bleed and spread out more than you'd want. For the pearls, however, I think it turned out great. Let dry.
4. In a well ventilated room or on your back porch, spray a healthy coat of sealant on the painted bits of the shoe. Let dry.
VOILA! Shoes fit for a princess and really stinkin' cute. Everyone at Convention is going to be jealous. I'd love to make more, so if you're a sister attending and you can send me a pair of white canvas shoes, I'd be glad to paint them for free! :)
I love these!! Could I still send you some shoes??
